What we do every week

  • Back up first. A weekly backup of your files and database, so every update can be rolled back.
  • Update core, plugins and themes. Updates are applied after the backup, and the site is checked afterwards.
  • Audit security. We check for outdated plugins, unknown administrator accounts and other common signs of trouble.
  • Audit performance. We look for slow pages and anything that is dragging the site down.
  • Fix bugs. Small fixes are included in every plan, within its limits.
  • Report. You receive a monthly report of what was done.

PHP versions and WordPress

WordPress runs on PHP, and PHP versions reach end of life. Sites on PHP 8.1 or older stopped receiving official security fixes. In October 2026 that mattered more than usual: the critical “PHP2Shell” flaws were fixed only for PHP 8.2 and newer (what website owners should do).

Upgrading PHP on an older WordPress site can break an outdated theme or plugin. We test the upgrade on a copy of your site first, fix or replace what breaks, then move the live site. Because the work depends on your site, PHP upgrades are quoted separately.

Hacked WordPress site?

Signs include new administrator users you did not create, redirects to strange sites, spam pages in Google under your domain, or files you do not recognise. We clean the site, remove what was added, close the way in, and restore from a clean backup where one exists. Cleanup is quoted per site; contact us with your site address.

Stores need more care, because an update that breaks checkout costs sales. For WooCommerce we back up the database before every update and check the cart and checkout afterwards.

We need an administrator account for our team, which you can remove at any time, plus hosting access for backups and PHP checks.
Every update runs after a fresh backup, and the site is checked afterwards. If an update causes a problem, we roll it back and fix the conflict.
